Cookie Policy — Yunique
1. Introduction
On yunique.be (“the Site”), Yunique BV, VAT no.: BE 1003.586.744 (KBO/enterprise number), with its registered office at Klein Vleminkstraat 2, 3201 Langdorp, Belgium (“we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar storage technologies to make the Site work, display embedded videos and show our location map — in some cases only with your consent. Our fonts are served from our own server.
This policy explains which cookies we use, why, and how you can change or withdraw your choice.
2. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit it. Other forms of local storage (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) fall under the same Belgian/EU rules: every non-strictly-necessary cookie requires prior, free and unambiguous consent.
3. Which cookies do we use?
| Technology | Placed by | Why | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube embeds (archive page) | Google Ireland Ltd. | Videos first appear as a placeholder with a play button. Only after you click it (or allow the category in the banner) does the player load and set cookies for playback and statistics. Where possible we use YouTube’s “nocookie” variant. | Yes — via the banner (“Videos”) or by clicking the video itself |
| Vimeo embeds (archive page) | Vimeo.com B.V. / Vimeo LLC | Videos first appear as a placeholder with a play button. Only after you click it (or allow the category in the banner) does the player load and set cookies for playback and statistics (we already ask Vimeo to honour their “Do Not Track” setting dnt=1). |
Yes — via the banner (“Videos”) or by clicking the video itself |
| Google Maps (Connect With Us page) | Google Ireland Ltd. | The map with our address first appears as a placeholder with a location icon. Only after you click it (or allow the category in the banner) does Google load the map and set cookies for display and usage statistics. | Yes — via the banner (“Map”) or by clicking the map itself |
| Fonts (Outfit + Plus Jakarta Sans) | Yunique itself | Our fonts are served from our own server (assets/fonts/), so no third party is involved when they load. |
No — first-party, loaded like any other part of the site |
| Emoji cache (WordPress) | Yunique itself | Our website engine checks whether your browser can render emoji and remembers the result for this session in sessionStorage, so the test doesn’t run again. This is our own technical storage, not shared with third parties. |
No (technical necessity) — see §5 if you prefer no local storage at all |
| Contact form | Yunique itself | You contact us by e-mail (info@yunique.be). No cookie or tracking is placed when sending a message. | No — but the details in your message are processed under GDPR (see our general privacy notice) |
What we don’t (yet) use: at this moment we have no Google Analytics, no Meta/Facebook pixel and no advertising. If we add any of these later, they will appear in this table and our banner will be shown again.
4. How consent works — and how to change it
- On your first visit, a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the screen explaining what we use, with two equally prominent buttons: “Accept all” or “Decline”. The things needing your consent are the “Videos (YouTube & Vimeo)” and the “Map (Google Maps)” categories; our fonts are served from our own server. Videos and maps you don’t allow appear as a placeholder with a button: clicking on them gives consent for exactly that one category (“just in time” consent).
- Our banner is maintained by us and runs entirely on our own server — no data goes to an external cookie provider.
- Your choice (with its timestamp) is stored in your browser (
localStorage) under our domain. The banner will not be shown again, unless you change it via the “Cookie preferences” button at the bottom right of the screen, or we change how we use cookies (in which case the banner appears automatically again). - Withdrawing consent has the same legal effect as giving it in the first place.
5. Browser settings
You can also manage cookies yourself through your browser’s settings (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, …). Note: if you block all cookies, videos and other elements may not work correctly. In most browsers you can “block third-party cookies only” — a good middle ground.
6. Third parties and their policies
- YouTube & Google Maps (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) — Google privacy policy. Opt out of Google cookies: adssettings.google.com.
- Vimeo — Vimeo is a subsidiary of VOOI Media Group; see vimeo.com/privacypolicy and their cookie settings.
We are the “controller” for our own data; Google and Vimeo are joint processors for the data processed by their players.
7. How long is storage kept?
- Cookie preference (our domain, first-party): remains stored until you clear your browser storage or we change how we use cookies.
- Emoji cache (
sessionStorage): disappears when you close the window/tab. - Cookies from YouTube/Vimeo/Google Maps: follow the settings Google/Vimeo themselves apply (typically 13–24 months; see their policies).
